The Great Kidnapping of 2006

This past weekend, I was involved in a very serious crime. I've never taken part in any criminal activity before. I admit it, I've lived a pretty sheltered life. I've always avoided potentially incriminating situations; I don't know if I ever had a detention in school, I've only ever received one traffic ticket.

I'm an honest, God-fearing, law-abiding citizen.

Until this weekend.

This weekend, I helped kidnap someone.

Okay, so it was just Stacy, and Sara was my accomplice. And we just had to bring her to a baby shower in my basement Saturday afternoon. And although we had plans of attacking her and tying her up and tossing her in the back of the Rav like a fugitive or something, we took into consideration that she is pregnant and we really didn't want to harm her or the baby.

Stacy made things easy on us. She was an ideal kidnapping victim. After Sara & I gave Oscar-worthy performances while touring the baby's room, we finally sprung the whole We have to kidnap you thing on Stace, and she just said, "Oh yeah? Where are we going?" She was reluctant to be blindfolded, but we convinced her she had no other option. It really didn't matter, because even though I drove around town a little trying to disorient her, she knew exactly where we were at all times. Either she has an uncanny sense of direction, or she could see through that scarf we tied around her head.

In any case, we brought her back to my place where a nice gathering of friends & family were waiting for the big surprise. We had some fun playing a few baby shower games, then Stacy opened her gifts, and I think she got a nice array of neccessities - everything from clothes, blankets, teethers, a piggy bank, a baby book, a diaper bag, baby seats and an especially-cute Ottawa Senators onesie (from guess who?), and much more. Then we snacked on some of our "favourites" - Sara's famous cheese ball, pumpernickel & spinach dip, nacho dip (made by the lovely Vicky Leach, another new reader of the Blog - hi Vick!), veggies & dip, Mexican roll-ups, chips, party mix, and a Winnie the Pooh cake, courtesy of Lizard (aka my mama). Thanks to all who helped out with this special occasion!

Congratulations, Stacy! Hope you had a good time, and we can't wait to meet Madyson!

Saturday night, I had the wonderful opportunity to chaperone Sara & Graham on their date to the movies. I hope someday to be able to go on my own dates, but until then, I'm glad my friends occasionally let me third-wheel it with them. We went to see The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. It was an extremely cute movie, and I loved it - not sure if it was better than the original, but I enjoyed it more than the second installment. Tim Allen, of course, reprises his role as the Big Guy himself, and he and the Mrs. have a little one on the way. They invite Mrs. Claus' parents to visit them in the Pole, but in order to protect the SOS (the Secret of Santa), they must transform Santa's Workshop into Canada. Yup, that's right. Canada. (Did you know Americans don't put vinegar on their french fries? I had no idea.) Anyways, amidst all this action, we also have Jack Frost trying to trick Santa into handing the responsibilities of St. Nick over to him. I very quickly learned to hate Jack Frost.

Some of my favourite moments included the ridiculous references to Canada, and the fact that the in-laws truly believed that Canadians are all little people with funny ears. Also, the Board of Legendary Figures, featuring Mother Nature, Father Time, Cupid, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman, and especially the Easter Bunny, were good for a few chuckles, too. I also think it's really cool that the same kid who played Charlie twelve years ago is back to play the role once again.

As the lights dimmed and the movie began, Graham threatened to shout out, "Santa's not real!" for the benefit of the children in the audience, but luckily, Sara shushed him. He was actually very good about it all, and I think I even heard him laugh a few times. When all was said and done, he said it was an okay movie. And he gets the gold star for willingly going along to see a Santa movie in early November and not even complaining.

The movie isn't going to win any Academy Awards, but if you feel the need to get into the Christmas spirit, and you have some little people you want to bring along, I definitely think you should check it out.

Waking up to snow on the ground the following morning really got me in the spirit, I can tell you that!

Oh, and yes, the Sens lost again. Bah humbug.

Hey Jill!

Well I chaperoned Jocelyne and Dan on their date as well. Actually, we went to dinner for Jocelynes birthday and my husband the farmer was milking so I went with the two of them. We also went to go and see the Santa Clause 3 but we chose the Coliseum as it was closer to the restaurant.

I would also like to note, that on my way home I came up behind a white rav that turned into where Graham lives in the city. And I could have swore it was you and now it could have been. It would have been around 9:20 or so.

The snow yesterday was nice. And the roads were much worse down my way than if you went to my moms. However, it caused an accident that had all highway traffic re-routed down my road to the Steele line and out the Wilson line. The re-direction of traffice lasted from 10:00am to 4:15pm and we saw the flat beds go by on the steele line. One was a dump truck, the other looking like a 2 door cavalier. This morning I heard on the radio that Chris Thomas or Thompson from the Winchester Junior B team was killed in a car accident. It might have been him. I am not sure.

Word to everyone driving out there. Take it easy on the "S" turn between the Westbrook Road and Wilson Road. Since me and Wayne have moved there alone, there has been 3 times that they have had to re-route due to accidents. And as we all know, that is where Katie-Leigh died. So be careful! Especially on the wintery days!

That's my two bits.

I heard this morning that it was the woman who operated the Lucca Equestrian place in Charteris who was killed. I also heard about the Jr. B guy, too, so not sure...

I think the Junior B guy's accident was in north Dundas or something, the truck rolled and he was ejected, and the other 2 passengers are going to be okay. It was on the news last night. When did this other accident happen?

I think Jill is right, the lady for the equstrian place. Uum just like to say a big THANK YOU to all who helped with the shower - it was great fun - simple and quick - it just seemed to move along so smoothly. Then Jill and Hollie helped me unload everything at home and visited for a while - ok well a while was a couple of hours for Hollie. Hah! May I mention in here also about Ricky's dder incident...everyone at the camp is teasing him so i'll give you the short run of it. Sunday morning, Ricky woke up late to begin his day (apparently it was my fault because i turned the alarm off) however, he was only out the door around 6:30 as opposed to 6 as planned. Anyways, he gets into the bush where he hunts and sitting there in the cold and snow - and sees a nice buck about 20 yards away (apparently that is close) anyways we dont really know if an earthquake hit (because his leg was apparently just a rockin cuz he was so excited) or if he was just scared to shoot it (haha) anyways, he went to take the safety off his gun and the "clicking noise" scared the deer off quickly and he couldnt get a shot then. Poor Ricky - he was the laughing stock at the camp all morning, Abby, Jackie and the dog, Sam all sang Amazing Grace for him on the harmonica...keep in mind that this is Ricky's second year in the camp so he has yet to prove he can actually get a deer. He was pretty mad so he stayed out Sunday hoping to get it - but still nothing. Better luck next weekend hun!!
Anyways thought I would share some "hunter news" with everyone this fine morning. Hope everyone has a good day and look at the forecast for the week - nice and warm double digits!!!
Take care,

Terribly sorry to hear that poor Ricky is the laughing stock of the camp! That's okay, Ricky - some poor wee deer lived thanks to you. If only there were more hunters out there who give the deer a chance! ;o)

Yeah Cathy Lapointe, they were talking about it here this morning. Some had their kids horseback riding there, everyone is really sad about it, she was supposed to be such a nice lady and she touched a lot of people. That's what they say anyway.

Don't feel bad Ricky. Both of Chad's brothers shot at and missed a big 10-pointer during black powder. They said the deer was just "too far" away, the gun didn't shoot that far. Now they are holding out until they see that deer again, the smaller ones that they have seen since aren't good enough. Of course Chad said he would have shot it if he was there.

Last I heard dad's gang got 2, but I'm not sure. Luke didn't go out at all yesterday, so I don't know what the recent tally is.

Lovely blog today - hunting....
that's all i hear at home for the last month and now even on the blog. Did anyone catch Amazing Race lastnight? I'm sure the recap will be tomorrow but it was Mary and Dave that were eliminated. They needed to come in first place or have a 30 minute penalty and well they came in like 2nd last with their "good friends" Bama Girls or whatever their called right on their butt so they got the boot. I just don't get it, they knew they would have had a penalty so why stick so close to people....oh well. The beauty queens came in first yet again, i think they rock with James and Tyler following in second and Rob and Kimberly fourth followed by the Chinese lads and them the Bama Girls. I think later on, you're going to hear in the media that James and Tyler have become gay together or something. If anyone remembers the fighting couple, Jonathan and Victoria from a couple of seasons ago, they had a baby girl at the beginning of october - her name - TREASE...different eh and surprising they can get along long enough to even make a baby. Haha!
Anyways take care,

Look for my re-caps on both Survivor & the Amazing Race in a double-whammy Blog tonight.

And Stacy: No way are Tyler & James gay. They're too hot. ;o)

Mark my word - all BLOG READERS - they will be gay - Yes Jill - they are hot but in a "pretty way" - and they always look like a couple - they're models....i dont know - just watch!!

Jill said...

I disagree...But the day they announce they're a couple, you can rub it in my face & say "I told ya so!"...They've got the tough-guy buddy thing going like Chris & Alex from season 1. I don't think they come off gay at all.

But on the subject of gay-ness, I read on the Net this AM that Doogie Howser is gay. He's on some other show now that I've never watched. I guess since Lance from NSync and TR Knight from Grey's have "come out", it's opening the door for the rest of these celebs!

Time will tell for James & Tyler, but I really think they're straight.

ANd Jill you are correct -this is a very eventful blog - where is SARA??? We didnt even meet her this morning coming home from Graham's.
Have a good night - i have a doctors appointment nice and late tonight...7:45 in Shawville - YUCK, so no Bingo tonight :( - but its the first Tuesday of the month tomorrow, so Ricky and I are going to play the big 3 hour bingo - $25 for these cards.

hi guys
I'm here. I mean I was at work all day...I was at Graham's last night so I don't know why I didn't see you Stacy this morning.
So it was a very enjoyable week-end- great shower, great food. Great movie, nice snow the next morning. It's really sad about Cathy Lapointe...I guess that's why Graham's roomies didn't come down yesterday, because the highway was blocked (or maybe not). I just thought it was strange that no one showed up yesterday. When I heard about it on Chez this morning I ahd chills.
So I have my own hunting stories but they are anti- hunting. Yesterday we had ppl RIGHT beside my house like 5 guys hunting.. turns out they are the creeps from up the road (who are rumored to be terrorists)so they are not ppl you want beside your house with guns. And this morning they were back there again so my neighbor had to escort them out. LIKE TAKE A HINT! And on my way home from work I saw road hunters on the highway so I honked my horn at them. I hate road hunters. Hunting is about being in the bush not on the side of the road. It's too bad that idiot ppl ruin it for the few that actaully do follow the rules and respect others and their property.

terrorists? surely you jest...
