The day my guardian angel sent me a wild turkey. And other stuff.

  • Ya can’t give a post a title like that and then not lead with that story, right?  So here it is:
  • This morning, on my five minute drive to work, I glanced down and realized I was driving 110 km/hr.  I don’t know what that works out to in miles per hr, my American pals, but let’s just say it was a good 20 clicks over the speed limit here on our ol’ Highway 148.  AND I was on the section of road that I like to call “Deer Alley”.  (In the past few weeks, I’ve had to slow down or stop completely for deer crossing the road right in this area.)  But I was feeling good, enjoying the speed, Adam Levine singing to me at a very loud volume on my car stereo, and me enjoying our duet… I’m at a payyyyyyyyphooooooone, tryin’ to callll hooooooome…
  • I didn’t want to slow down.  But just as all of these thoughts were crossing my mind, I saw something – a rather large dark shape – moving on to the road not far up ahead.  I squinted (did I mention I wasn’t wearing my glasses?  oops) and quickly determined it wasn’t a deer.  But I started braking a little anyways just in case, and as I got closer I realized it was a giant massive humungous wild turkey.  And when I was just a few yards away, it decided to slowly start flapping it’s wings and make it’s way on to MY side of the road.  Brakes = slammed.  I very narrowly missed having wild turkey for dinner tonight.  (ew. yuck. never.)

wild turkey

  • I admit, I was a little cranky with the turkey for being a killjoy.  Having to slam on the brakes and breathe a sigh of relief for narrowly escaping having turkey feathers in my grill (do Focuses have grills?  I don’t even know.) – well it kinda ruined my buzz.  And Adam Levine was over, and I was dismayed.  Ah well.  Carry on, Jill.  Carry on.  So I was just getting my speed wound back up when, wouldn’t you know, I drove past a cop car sitting on the side of the road.  I’d have probably been stopped for speeding if it wasn’t for my near-collision with Mr. Wild Turkey mere moments before.  I grinned to myself, thinking, “I have the feeling someone sent that turkey to spare me a ticket…”
  • And that’s the story of how my guardian angel sent me a wild turkey.
  • Who knew a five-minute drive could be so adventurous, eh?
  • OK.  Moving right along.  Last night was my first night of doing the Advanced TurboFire DVDs.  I had the Fire 60 + Abs 10 classes on the schedule, and I admit to kind of dreading them.  I’ve become accustomed to my work-outs, and the prospect of change had me feeling unsettled all day.  PLUS the fact that for the first time I’d be working out more than an hour left me feeling a little daunted.  Turns out?  Fire 60 was  a lot of fun, and the change up felt good.  Abs 10 went by quickly, and I’m feeling it today.  All in all?  Day One of Advanced TurboFire can be considered a success!

advanced dvds

  • I take measurements and progress photos every four weeks with this program, and since I’ve just completed 12 weeks, last night was measuring & picture night.  You know what would be cool?  It would be cool if my mom could remember where exactly she measured the last time.  I didn’t lose as many inches as I thought I had this past month, but considering there’s possible discrepancies - “Is this where I put the measuring tape last time?”  “I DON’T KNOW MOM IT’S YOUR JOB TO REMEMBER THAT!!!” – it’s possible that I did lose more.  I also wasn’t thrilled with my pictures, though.  *sigh*  I’m an impatient kid…
  • And no, I’m not showing you the progress photos.  They are hideous.
  • I keep telling myself that the number on the scale continues to go down, and my clothes continue to feel looser on me, so take it and run.  Don’t sweat the small stuff.
  • I don’t think I’ve said it yet this season… but my God, I love The Voice.  And Adam Levine.  And Blake Shelton.  And I didn’t think Usher and Shakira would be good replacements for Cee-Lo and Xtina, but whaddya know, I love them too.  Definitely the best singing competition on TV right now, in my opinion.  Did I mention my love for Adam Levine??

  • Here’s the problem with ordering clothing on-line:  Sometimes, you pick out a pair of new khaki pants that you think would look cool with your old jean jacket that fits again.  And then the khakis arrive in the mail and you discover they have little pink lobsters all over them.  No deal big wheel.

  • I have a question.  Why, oh why, did the food porn craze that has swept Facebook coincide with me trying to lose weight?  Anyone else having this problem?  I have a handful of friends on Facebook who share multiple recipes (with drool-worthy pics) each and every day, and they all show up in my newsfeed.  I’m getting good at whizzing past them without even looking at them, but why?  Oh, why?  I mean, I get why they’re doing it – by “sharing” the recipe, it saves it to their page for future reference.  But isn’t that what Pinterest and Foodgawker are for??  Dudes.  It’s rough on a kid trying to change her eating habits.

And… I’m out for today!!

Nick really wants to go Turkey hunting. He will use a gun however, not a car, to get one.

I hate shopping for khakis. I can never find a pair that looks right on me.

glad you missed the turkey cuz I hear they can do just as much damage as a deer could do Jill - good call and good call on missing the near ticket too! The lobsters on the khakis made me LOL - I think about the pants Tanner has, nice black dress pants with little dogs or horses on them, not 100% sure what they are!

Glad that turkey was there speed racer!! It's turkey season and my husband is dying to shoot some turkeys, lol.
Great job keeping up with your workouts! I can't wait to get to it. I'll be coming to you for support and motivation. I hate those progress pictures-I always feel like I look way worse in pictures than in person. Don't let it bring you down!

I was wondering if your wild turkey was going to thwart you getting a speeding ticket - what a good turkey angel! ;) And I'm glad you didn't end up with turkey guts on your car. ;)

I love Adam Levine too!!!

I'm so glad Mr. Turkey saved you from getting a ticket! Why does he US use miles and the rest of the world use km? I know there's a formula to translate it but I'm lazy. I just want life to be simple, ya know?

AWESOME job on the working out! As long as your clothes feel good, don't sweat the measurements. Food porn has GOT TO GO! My mom is horrible about posting shit!!

I'm watching AI but I catch the Voice when I can. I like Adam and Blake. Usher is huge but Shakira hasn't done much lately (besides have a babe) and I don't consider her very popular. Not sure why they picked her. Oh well.

Thanks for linking up with Shawn. I haven't opened my laptop since Wed. Commenting from my iPhone is NOT ideal but its what I can do for now! The boxes are thinning out!! Woo hoo!
