Time to move on from Supernatural?

Alright, Bloggy pals.  I need some advice!

As you may already know, I’m a member of Zip.ca.  It’s a website where you a pay a monthly membership fee, pick DVDs you want to watch, and they mail them to you as they become available.  It’s like Netflix, but for poor losers like me who live in the Dark Ages and don’t have Internet access in their homes.

Archaic, I know.  But depending on how many DVDs I watch in a month, my plan is generally cheaper than renting movies from the local store.  (Cheaper than finally taking that step to get the Internet?  I don’t know, I haven’t done that math…)  Plus, one of my favourite parts – which I wouldn’t be able to rent here anyways – is getting to watch TV series’ on DVD that I’ve previously missed out on.

Like True Blood, and The Vampire Diaries.  Both are favourites of mine that I discovered by renting from Zip.

Most recently, I Zipped the first season of Supernatural.  On the surface, it sounds like my idea of fun.  I’ve always been intrigued by stories involving the supernatural, and this show is based on many such stories.  Plus, I knew one of the leading actors was Jensen Ackles, and he’s just too pretty not to love.

I know, right?!?!?!

Ohhh yeah.  Spooky stuff scares the bejeezus out of me.  And this show?  Well, each episode is basically a mini horror movie.  Which means, I have to watch it in broad daylight or else I have to sleep with lights on and fear the monster in my closet.

If I’m going to put myself through that kind of torture, I might as well just go back to watching Criminal Minds.

I forced myself through Season 1 – because when I start something, I have to finish it – and while I really did like most of it, the fright factor might just be a bit too much for me.

I loved that they explored and put their own twists on some very familiar scary stories and urban legends, such as The Hook Man, Bloody Mary, and the Woman in White – and not only did I love getting to watch Jensen in the role of Dean Winchester, but also Jared Padalecki as his brother Sam, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the recurring role as their father John, were definite added bonuses.

The premise is still something that interests me – the Winchester brothers travel the United States in their black muscle car, listening to loud classic rock, searching for towns and people who need their help in fighting supernatural phenomena.   Dean and Sam are no strangers to “the dark side”.  A demon claimed their mother when they were just little boys, and their dad has spent his life searching for the demon, and training his sons to fight against such dark forces.  Sam eventually left “the family business” to take on the life of a normal college kid, only to lose his girlfriend to the same demon that killed his mother.  Thus, his desire to fight evil and find the demon drives him back on the road with Dean.

In each episode, Dean and Sam encounter another small town, and another ghost, demon, spirit, or similar evil member of American folklore.  They investigate the supernatural phenomenon plaguing each town or family.  And It usually wraps up nicely with the good brothers defeating evil, and with the ever-handsome Dean saying good-bye to the lovely local girl who has taken a shine to him, while Sam stands by the car, shaking his head and rolling his eyes.  Their dad floats in and out of the series, as the trail to finding their wife & mother’s killer grows stronger as the first season plays out.

Season 1 ends with a major cliffhanger.  And I have yet to decide if I’m going to continue with Supernatural.  I want to find out what happens to Dean, Sam, and their dad, but I’m not sure watching another season full of horror movies is worth it…

So, here’s where you come in, friends.  Are any of you Supernatural fans?  I understand it is now in its seventh season.  If I continue on with the Winchester family, that’s  a lot of scary stuff in my future.  I may never be able to sleep without a light on again.  But if you watch it, do you think I’ll be missing out if I give up on it now?  I mean, missing out on more than just the sexiness that is Jensen Ackles??

Um.  Uh.  Yeah…where was I??…

Oh, yes.   What TV shows do you think I should be Zipping?  What are your favourites?  Suggest anything and everything – but the ones I’m already a fan of are Grey’s Anatomy, Friends, Sex & the City, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Being Erica, and The Big Bang Theory…no need to direct me to those ones, I’m arleady there! ;)

I’ve also been patiently waiting for Zip to send me Prison Break…but apparently it’s really popular or something, because it’s been at the top of my list for 6 months, but still no sign of it. :(

Let me know what I’m missing out on!  Thanks, guys!!

I'll suggest Pretty Little Liars and Drop Dead Diva. Those are 2 of my faves.

Okay, I used to watch Supernatural, but I don't anymore. It really did get too scary/twisted for me. Keep in mind, I also gave up Criminal Minds and CSI for the same reason - they all gave me nightmares!

If you like weird stuff, you might really like Fringe. Besides a scene at the beginning of every episode that's always slightly scary or gross, it's not bad. For funny stuff, you can't get any better than Modern Family. LOVE it.

Dexter, Mad Men, The Walking Dead & The Killing. In that order :)

You won't be sorry.

Modern family, the Middle, Community, One Tree Hill, and (for mystery) Castle. Some of my favorites! Also a little Sheldon Cooper does one good
